What are we in Power For?

By: Dennis Valdes

Only 23 days left in my term! Oh no! I can’t believe it’s almost over. Is it too late to run for a second term?!?

This past Friday and Saturday, PE Paul Chuatico held his Planning Session for incoming directors at the Bayview Hotel in Manila. Congratulations to everyone who came and contributed. I’m sure that next RY will be an excellent one, easily surpassing this year and all the years before, because you will have had the benefit of all our experience to help out in doing so.

The Planning Session started out with a golf game at Intramuros – of course, after all we are a "golfing club" di ba? By Presidential Decree (Why not? I’m coming to the end of the term and I better use these powers while I still can.), the golf game was considered a make up for a President’s Cup leg. It also helped out those directors that had one meeting short of 100% attendance.

Unfortunately I was unable to finish more than seven holes, as I received an urgent text from Commander Tessa, asking me to come home for an interview with GMA TV. Too bad for Secretary Al, who was 1 up on our Game 6 Match Play at the time. I guess this last series of ours has really earned its title as the Asterisk Series, since he has not been able to finish a game with me while he is playing well. Instead our games seem to have been those when he is fully deserving of his 21 handicap.

I caught up with the group again at the tail end of a sumptuous dinner at Sea Palace, planned courtesy of Mr. Budget himself: Mike Sy. It’s really great to see PKC’s team come into its own. I’m super confident that everyone on board will do an excellent job starting July.

Meanwhile, back on the Outgoing Team, let’s not forget we still have a few activities planned during these final 23 days. First off is tonight’s Softball Game at the Polo Club. The two contesting teams will be the Outgoing Team versus the Incoming Team, and the two team captains are of course, fairly obvious.

A few RCMA’ers are bringing their kids so this should be a great family event. Many thanks again to PP Arsenic Laurel for organizing and planning the event. Afterwards, if I get the bet correctly, the losers will treat the winners to pizza and beer. Kids stay with Coca-Cola naturally!

That’s tonight, so keep it in mind as you enjoy your breakfast this morning!
