RVC Rizal Almost Done with Deep Well
By
Dennis Valdés

Last Friday, officers of our RVC Rizal turned over pictures of the Deep Well Project funded by RCMA in Bgy. Rizal, Makati. The project is more than the usual Deep Well Project, which usually consists of a pump at ground level. This Deep Well goes down to 250 meters, and consists of pump and water tank.

The Deep Well was funded through Matching Grant No. 8024, started by then President Coch Cochingyan in RY 1997-98. The Grant was implemented during the term of President Miguel Puyat and construction finished early July 1999.

RCMA is currently discussing the addition of an UV Water Purifier to the Deep Well, which will enable our RVC Rizal to sell potable water to nearby residents. The system is being designed so that non-potable water can also be dispensed. The RVC plans to use this non-potable water to start a car wash business.

RVC Rizal is the younger of our two RVC's in Makati. Their first business project was a Rice Store, which unfortunately did not do too well. The Rice Store was funded with a loan from RCMA Foundation.
Early this year, the RVC re-organized under new leadership. The new group decided to start several new businesses. The first is a Coca-Cola Dealership Project, which involved a P60,000 start up fee to Coca-Cola Philippines. The money was raised from members' equity and two loans: P30,000 from Ayala Foundation Inc. and P20,000 from RCMAF.
In addition, the new RVC undertook to pay the outstanding balance of their previous administration, thus undertaking a P24,000 loan from RCMAF. Thus, RCMAF was also able to re-structure their uncollectible loan from the previous RVC Rizal administration.

The second business is a Car Wash Project, using the new Deep Well as a source of water. RVC members are excited about the prospects about this project as there are a number of taxis, FX vehicles and pedicabs in the barangay. In fact, it was only upon our encouragement that they decided to push through with the addition of the UV Water Filtration equipment. This will be the third business of the RVC. The UV equipment will ensure a source of potable water for the residents of Bgy. Rizal in the years to come. RVC Rizal will charge a minimal amount for the upkeep of the equipment.

Through these three projects, we are ensuring that RVC Rizal will become a viable organization in the years to come. We are also planning bookkeeping seminars with them, to ensure that the funds from these projects are properly accounted for and that the loans to AFI and RCMAF are fully paid.
