What Are We in Power
For?
By
Dennis O. Valdés
Some sad news, fellow RCMA'ers.
Andy Buendia, who has been a member of
our club for as long as I can remember,
has been stricken with lung cancer and is
currently in Mt. Zion Hospital in the
USA. We are planning to send Andy some
words of support and encouragement. Those
who would like to contribute can do so by
sending your notes to me and I will
forward these to Andy.
Last week was a quiet week, by Rotary
standards. I've been busy attending the
Inductions of the different clubs which
take up 3 or more nights of the week, so
much so that dinner at home has been a
privilege lately. It's amazing though,
that so many of the Presidents still go
to all the Inductions - there are even a
few who have 100% attendance.
Last Thursday, July 29, I met with
Carmelo Cabrera, from the Ayala
Foundation, Inc. to discuss our work with
them and our RVC's in Bgy. Pembo and Bgy.
Rizal. AFI helps us manage our RVC's and
in turn, we donate money to AFI. I will
be discussing their programs in depth
with the RCMA Board and with RCMAF in the
near future.
Last Saturday, July 31, was the District
Rotaract Assembly and Convention. Club
Secretary Alvin Co valiantly gave up his
Saturday golf game to represent us.
Unfortunately, I had to be in Cebu for
the day to judge a photo contest for the
new Cebu bridge. Thanks to Sec. Alvin for
making sure that he doesn't get any extra
practice before our next round of
hostilities in the upcoming President's
Cup.
Our Guest Speaker this morning is DGCC
Juan Carlos "Carlos" G. del
Rosario, a PP of RC Makati, our mother
club. DGCC stands for Deputy Governor and
Coordinating Chairman, but the full title
is just too long-winded to say. As PP
Carlos is CC for International Service,
he will be talking about those Programs
of our District this year. Let's all give
him a warm welcome. |
