The
President's Time (for the 1st time)
|
Kuro-kuro ko lamang...
by:Rtn. "Chuck" Montecillo
Well,
the time has come. My first issue of Pagkakaisa.
It’s amazing how time flies. What seemed so
far off, all of a sudden came flying right in to
my face. I now had a deadline!
I
remember when I was asked to become the new
Editor of this award winning publication. It was
in a Mercedes van somewhere in Cagayan de Oro.
Back then, PE Dennis Valdes (currently our
Millenium President), after a discussion with our
former club Secretary, Bobby Roxas and former
club treasurer, Alvin the “Gambler” Co,
asked me if I would be interested in becoming
this year’s Pagkakaisa Editor.
“Wow!”
I thought to myself. “What an honor.”
Just
as I agreed to the suggestion, I began to feel
like maybe I was set-up..... Nah! This is Rotary.
According to the Four-Way Test, that
couldn’t have happened. We’re
Rotarians, right?
All
kidding aside, I do feel that it was a great
honor to have been asked to take on the
responsibility of keeping our club informed and
entertained. It’s not everyday that I get a
chance to serve a very distinguished group of
people such as yourselves. I just hope that I am
up to the task of maintaining the great work of
the past editors. It’s quite a tough act to
follow.
Now,
to the business at hand.
As
you will notice, there is a new look to the
cover. I remembered a quote, “Success leaves
clues”.(quoted from “Personal
Power”, by Tony Robbins) Like in the past,
the Pagkakaisa had a powerful cover filled with
symbolism. I’m sure that had something to do
with its success in the District. With that in
mind, I thought a fresh image was in order.
After
only about 4 phone calls, Matt Lizares of Graphic
Works Inc. came up with the design you see before
you. (amazing, ‘coz I just dictated to him ,
over the phone, what I wanted to see) By the way,
it is also Matt that is responsible for the cover
design of our upcoming Annual Review.
I
keeping with past success, I also decided not to
change the section headings (ie; Kuro-kuro Ko
Lamang, Profiles, If you were supposed...)
Although, I have added a few more, some of which
you will see in coming issues.
In
other words, I hope that my work in this
publication will be my first step in acting with
Consistency, Credibility and Continuity as the
Rotary theme suggests.

Profiles (Guest Speaker)
By Baby Rtn. Rene R. Narciso
Robert F. Facuri or otherwise known as Bert. He
is a businessman today and a self made man and a
pistol shooter for ten years at a national level,
specializing in speed shooting. Bert has won 283
trophies and 93 medals in shooting since 1986. He
has emerged champion in several of these and even
competed in the U.S.
He has been invited to lecture on hand guns since
1992. His audiences or shall we say,
"students", range from law enforcement
units to subdivision homeowners, the military,
security personnel, gun club members and even
shopping mall crowds.
In college, he took up engineering, and would you
believe, he once almost became a
"CHIPS" type highway patrol cop. That,
however gave way to being a sales executive in a
major shipping firm until he went in to business.
Today he is the President of Timberpro and New
Alffa Development Corp.
Whatever Bert does, his family also, does. His
lovely wife Jeangay, a former advertising model
and sales executive helps in running the business
(Pest Control) and is a sharp shooter herself.
Today Bert's new love is golf. Yes, his wife
plays, too and all his kids as well. Just the
same, Bert remains an authority on guns,
particularly in safety and its proper,
responsible use. |
