Kuro-kuro Ko Lamang

by: Rtn. Chuck Montecillo

Our President Estrada has done it again. Who would have thought that he actually watched television with all the millions of things he has to accumulate… I mean do. He even had the time to make a phone call!

It’s pretty rare that a day passes that I don’t hear anything negative about our infamous President. Jokes that malign his intelligence (or lack of), actions that break protocol, someone who was fired for no apparent reason or someone else promoted for even less… if he hasn’t done it, he’s about to! It’s amazing how he can even wear his shoes in public. I mean, they have so many teeth marks from the number of times he has put his foot in his mouth!

The latest buzz is that the public wants him out of office. I guess everyone has had enough of the Presidents’ antics. It hasn’t been too long in to his term of office, and already, his country is turning on him. That’s not a good sign.

Ok, so he is a bad President. He has not lived up to any of his campaign promises and he is making a mockery of our beloved country. What else is new? At the very least, he has been very entertaining!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not on his side. But, you have to admit, it was us, the citizens of the Philippines that put him in office in the first place. Sure, no one will ever admit to that fact, but who is to blame after all? It’s not like he elected himself.

In the long history of politicians that "served" (themselves) in our country, who hasn’t let us down in one way or another? One dictator imprisoned anyone that got in his way, while his wife became a world famous shoe collector, another built an EXPO that eventually got EXPOSED. Then there were the yellow ribbon years that were spent in the darkness (due to power outages). How different is this actor that we call President?

Let me tell you. He is the most fun. The people of the Philippines haven’t had this much fun in a long time. Jokes have clogged the "text" lines since taking his oath of office. Newspapers haven’t had so much to write about one guy. Even the Wall Street Journal got in to the action. Television personalities and shows can easily gain ratings by just portraying him in one form or another. He is bigger that basket ball! If only there was a way to score this kind of phenomenon, gamblers could even share in the festivities.

Every cloud has a silver lining. It’s true this administration has been one of the darkest that ever came about in the history of the Philippines. But, I believe that no one is useless. Even BAD EXAMPLES can teach us what NOT to do. There is a lesson in here, somewhere. As a country, it’s up to us to learn from this experience.

Good morning RCMA! This is your wake up call. (oops! Wrong section!)
