By: Rtn. Desi Laperal This
rotary day started slow but the room filled up as Rotarians and their guests trickled in.
President Dennis was concerned about the absence of three member-candidates and their
ninongs. Other RCMAers were concerned about missing the Alay-Lakad and they had a
premonition that the club will go after them during the fining session.
Past President T.R. Mohan was the moderator. We had a short invocation from Tonino Habana.
The national anthem was by Atab Rivera while Tom Pohang took care of the introduction of
guests. By the time Past President Coch took the podium for the fining session, the
RCMAers were still trickling in. As expected, PP Coch called to attention those who were
absent in the Alay-Lakad. He systematically fined members from each table, leaving Alvin
Co's table for last. But Alvin disappeared, PP Coch knew that Alvin had some mischief
under the table hence Alvin was made to pay for those fined at the table. George Lagos
took care of the wake up call with a funny story regarding a materialistic lawyer.
There were some announcements. The most interesting was from Alvin regarding the supposed
birthday of the wife of Past President T.R. Mohan. For the benefit of the Baby Rotarians,
PP T.R. is very much a bachelor. We are not sure what Alvin had in mind with this piece of
disinformation. A new pre-golf game tactic?
We moved on to the induction of three new members;
- Tristan Choa who works at Coca -Cola
- Joe Mari Sy whose classification is Pharmaceutical Marketing
- Marco Rodriguez in Roofing Materials Marketing,
Welcome New Members.
Our guest speaker was introduced by Mohan Kulkarni. Ram Chandra Biswas is a
photo-journalist by profession. He hails from Calcutta, India. He traveled all over the
world by bicycle, having visited 147 countries in the 17 years he has been on the road. He
has 53 more countries to go. He shared a message of peace and love of fellow men. Most
notable is that our guest speaker travels with "just a dollar in his pocket".
His endeavor is funded by contributions. His talk ended with some questions from the
members then a token contribution from the two Mohans. For more information expect an
interview in a future issue of the Daily Inquirer. |
