I was watching a Discovery Channel program about a comet that was discovered. This comet was the same one that crashed on to the planet of Jupiter and caused spectacular, catastrophic damage to the planet's surface.

Please excuse the lack of detail in my recount. The Scientist that discovered the comet was also an advocate of the theory that when an inter-stellar body impacts a planet's surface, due to its high rate of speed, the energy released is like a nuclear explosion. His theory was very unpopular among the scientific community for many, many years.

In 1993 ( I think), when the comet hit Jupiter, his theories were proven correct. Plumes of large flames were bursting from Jupiter's surface. And from the initial impact, several more "explosions" occurred later on, furthering the damage on the planet.

This scientist says that if a meteor measuring a mile in diameter were to hit our planet, the energy of its impact would be equivalent to over 1000 nuclear bombs in one spot!!!! We all know how powerful 1 bomb can be, but 1000? It would end all life as we know it.

In another Discovery program, they touched on the multitudes of "space rocks" flying past our planet. One picture showed the thousands of these rock hurtling past our planet on a daily basis, with thousands more still on their way. The chances of one of these things hitting our planet is extremely high. Just like in the movie, Independence Day, the smaller ones are VW sized!

After seeing these programs, if I didn't already believe in God, I surely would have right away. There has to be someone watching over us, otherwise, our planet would have already been hit by one of the larger meteors, ending it all for us.

The next time you look up at the night sky, realize that there is a traffic jam of meteors and asteroids just waiting to enter our atmosphere. The "Big MMDA" in the sky is making sure traffic flows properly, thus, avoiding any accidents. Let's make sure that we follow the rules and live life to the fullest for this MMDA won't go away by simply handing him a "C-note".
