Why you like that?

It's Monday night and I'm having a mental block.
To make matters worse, I'm sleepy
very, very
sleepy. I woke up at 3:30am this morning for a
golf tournament at Sta. Elena Golf Club. The
tournament was the Ronald McDonalds House Charity
and once again Goldilocks Bake Shop had asked me
to form another team on their behalf.
Since the format was 3-Man Scramble, it's a no
brainer who is on top of the list. An excellent
Class A player with a handicap to reckon with!
The Commander himself, Star Fleet Commander. Next
in my list is a steady Class B player with an
inflated handicap, no other than Mr. Exotic Car.
To round up the team, you need a slayer,
preferably a Tiger-slayer, who can putt like
hell. Don't asked El Tigre about it though since
he's biased.
Tee-off was at 7:30am and you must be wondering
why I woke up so early since Sta. Elena is an
hour away from Marina. Well, I had to go back to
El Tigre's favorite playground (Tagaytay
Highlands) to picked up my golf set since I
clumsily forgot to bring it him the day before.
Driving up to Tagaytay at 4:00am is very
pleasant. I did it in less than an hour but I
figured that El Tigre will do it in half that
time.
Back to golf. This was our third attempt to take
the Top Gun but will this be our year? The first
two year was 4-Man Scramble and the fourth member
was the Mentor himself. But this year, the Mentor
beg off (thank goodness since I didn't realize
the tournament format has been changed) since
he's busy making millions for the Queen and
Prince Emilio. The inaugural year was a memorable
year as the four of us gunned down birdies after
birdies. After eighteen holes, we had eight of
them but unfortunately we finished 1st runner-up
by a stroke through handicap. Sigh! The second
year was a disaster and I don't care to write
about it.
As tee-time gets closer, the adrenaline starts
flowing because I knew I was playing bad and had
no idea how extensive my participation will be.
After the first hole, I remembered why I'm on the
team. Besides, being the Team Captain, Manager
and Coach at the same time, I was a great putter.
Why should I be humble when it's true!
And the truth shall prevail! After holing putts
after putts after putts, we finished with 7
birdies. One less than our first year total but
we are missing Mentor this time around. It turns
out that we had the most birdies and declared, as
the Low Gross Champion but unfortunately, there
was no trophy for show (Cheapskates). Instead we
have to wait for 30 agonizing minutes to know
whether we were Top Gun or not.
We were bridesmaids once again. We were beaten by
one stroke by the eventual Champion who had a
handicap 12 (we had 7). Oh well, there is always
next year. We had a blast! The Commander was
awesome, the Exotic Car was steady and the
Tiger-slayer lives another day to re-tell this
story.
I'm going to sleep now.
